Boxy Concrete House

Green, picturesque hills, lush pastureland in the field of vision and dense forest in the background: “The location of the house itself is simply unique. It is very difficult to get a building site here, and that makes this property special right from the start, ”says architect Oskar Leo Kaufmann. At first glance, it looks as if two dice – a large and a slightly smaller one – happened to be lying in the landscape.

Two cuboids in raw, gray concrete – as original as nature. It was important to the client to build a house that was as compact as possible and that changed or built up the surrounding landscape as little as possible, at a height of almost 1,100 meters, just a few kilometers from the village of Schnepfau. This reluctance is not only reflected in the form, Minimalism is also popular when it comes to the choice of materials for houses and guesthouses – and one must add: the highest quality. Inside, all the exposed concrete surfaces are lightly sandblasted, the floor was made in the armor, in the basement you walk on polished screed.

Due to the many exposed concrete surfaces, the house has good heat storage capacity. There is also a heat pump and all floors are equipped with underfloor heating. The two bedrooms in the main house and analogously in the guest house are completely covered with wood. There is also a heat pump and all floors are equipped with underfloor heating.
